Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 8,   Pages 1268-1280 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2143-5

Abstract: The micro-nano composite structure can endow separation membranes with special surface properties, butBy using this method, a bicontinuous porous microfiltration membrane with robust micro-nano compositestructure was obtained via commercially available polymers of polyacrylonitrile and polyvinylpyrrolidoneThe formation mechanism of the micro-nano composite structure was proposed.hydrogen bonding between polyacrylonitrile and polyvinylpyrrolidone molecules should have resulted in the nano-protrusions

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2018, Volume 12, Issue 1,   Pages 174-183 doi: 10.1007/s11705-017-1670-y

Abstract: Polysulfone (PSf) membranes were modified by either a new organic modifier (sulfonated poly(ether sulfide sulfone), SPESS) or a traditional modifier (rice hulk). These membranes were further reinforced with either multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) or silica nanoparticles. Having a dye rejection of 98.46%, the reinforced membranes increased more than 50% in strength but no change in solution flux was observed. The morphological and roughness studies were conducted using scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Moreover, the PSF membranes were also characterized by differential scanning calorimetry. Modifying the membranes with organic modifier or nanofiller increases the glass transition temperature ( ). The highest and strength were observed for the PSf-SPESS-MWCNT membrane. SPESS decreases surface roughness but MWCNT increases roughness on the nanoscale. All membranes show a bimodal pore size distribution, whereas the PSf-SPESS-MWCNT membrane exhibits a relatively uniform distribution of macroscopic and microscopic pores.

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 2,   Pages 340-350 doi: 10.1007/s11705-020-1942-9

Abstract: In this study, a facile and environmentally friendly method with low energy consumption for preparing nanoscale AgCl and BaSO co-precipitates (AgCl@BaSO co-precipitates) was developed based on the metathetical reaction. Then, the dried co-precipitates were melt-compounded with polyamide 6 (PA6) resins at a specified mass ratio in a twin-screw extruder. The results demonstrated that in the absence of any coating agent or carrier, the nanoparticles of AgCl@BaSO co-precipitates were homogeneously dispersed in the PA6 matrix. Further analysis showed that after the addition of AgCl@BaSO co-precipitates, the antibacterial performance, along with the flame-retardance and anti-dripping characteristics of PA6, was enhanced significantly. In addition, the PA6 composites possessed high spinnability in producing pre-oriented yarn.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 11,   Pages 1516-1529 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1800068

Abstract: An ammonia propulsion (ASVP) system for s is presented. Compared with a normal cold gas or liquefied gas propulsion system, a multiplex parallel sieve type vaporizer and related vaporization control methods are put forward to achieve of liquefied propellant. The problems of high vaporization latent heat and incomplete vaporization of are solved, so that the ASVP system takes great advantage of high theoretical specific impulse and high propellant storage density. Furthermore, the ASVP operation procedure and its physical chemistry theories and mathematical models are thoroughly analyzed. An optimal strategy of thrust control is proposed with consideration of thrust performance and energy efficiency. The ground tests indicate that the ASVP system weighs 1.8 kg (with 0.34-kg propellant) and reaches a specific impulse of more than 100 s, while the power consumption is less than 10 W. The ASVP system meets multiple requirements including high specific impulse, low power consumption, easy fabrication, and uniform adjustable thrust output, and thus is suitable for s.

Influence of short chain ceramides and lipophilic penetration enhancers on the nano-structure of stratum

Annett SCHROETER, Tanja ENGELBRECHT, Reinhard H. H. NEUBERT

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 1,   Pages 29-36 doi: 10.1007/s11705-013-1302-0

Abstract: Oriented stratum corneum model lipid membranes were used to study the influence of the short chain ceramides (CER)[NP] and [AP] as well as the impact of the lipophilic penetration enhancer molecules oleic acid (OA) and isopropyl myristate (IPM) on the lipid nanostructure. The influence of the enhancer molecules were studied using specifically deuterated OA and IPM and neutron diffraction. H NMR spectroscopy was used to study the impact of the ceramides’ degree of order within the stratum corneum model lipid membranes. It was found that CER[NP] forms two very stable phases with high resistance against temperature increase. Phase B showed unusual hydration behavior as no water uptake of this phase was observed. The H NMR spectroscopic measurements showed that CER[NP] based ternary model system had a higher state of lamellar order in comparison to CER[AP] based lipid matrix. The studies confirmed that the short chain ceramides, particularly CER[NP], have a very high impact on the integrity of the Stratum corneum lipid bilayers. The penetration enhancer OA has not influenced the repeat distance of the model membrane based on CER[AP], and was not able to induce a phase separation in the investigated lipid matrix. However, a disorder and a fluidisation of the model membranes were observed when OA was incorporated. IPM showed the same effect but two phases (assigned as phase A and B) appeared, when IPM was used as penetration enhancer and incorporated into the model membrane. Furthermore, two arrangements of IPM were identified in phase A using deuterated IPM. A model of the nanostructure of the Stratum corneum lipid membranes is presented.
